Richard Broadhead

(non-member), almost certainly for his rescue of French sailor Jacques de Roux during the 1982 BOC Challenge Race, in which he finished third aboard his 52ft cutter PERSEVERANCE OF MEDINA. Roux’s yacht SKOIERN III had pitchpoled in the Southern Pacific Ocean and was sinking when Broadhead found him. He was voted Yachtsman of the Year in 1983.
