(non-member) for his three circumnavigations. In 1980 he had made the fastest solo circumnavigation via the Three Great Capes in OCEAN BOUND. Two years later he repeated the feat the other way, becoming the first person to circumnavigate Cape Horn singlehanded in both directions. He then switched to motorboats, and in 1984/5 circumnavigated westabout in the 42ft MABEL E HOLLAND, a converted ex-RNLI wooden lifeboat, becoming the first person to circumnavigate solo in a motor boat.
