OCC Members On The Beach At Cuttyhunk - Image Courtesy Peter & Patty, SV Serendipitous
By Neil Langford, s/v Crystal Blues August 2017. From Newport it's only a 20nm day sail to Cuttyhunk, part of the Elizabeth Island chain that leads north towards Buzzards Bay. We motored into 25 knot headwinds and grey lumpy conditions to get there, to spend some time with the Southern New England Rally, run by the Ocean Cruising Club. On arrival we swung to a mooring in "the pond" for two nights, then moved outside to anchor for another night when the weather settled. This was to be our first "on the water" club event, since joining way back in 2004. A fine bunch of cruisers from several continents shared experiences, food, drink and generally played the fool for three days. Well done to the organisers, Peter & Patty from SV Serendipitous.

Vero Beach FL Thanksgiving 2017
Scott Kuhner? Every Thanksgiving, many of us snowbirds on our way south to the Bahamas and/or the Caribbean stop at the Vero Beach Florida City Marina because they put on a wonder dinner for all us cruisers. The mooring field was full with most of us having to raft two or three to a mooring. One of the best things was the number of Flying Fish burgees we saw flying from other boats spreaders, so this afternoon we arranged a fun cocktail hour at one of the gazebos at the marina. The boats were from all over. Kitty and I on Tamure from Connecticut, Jack Myles on Airlia from Vero Beach, Steffan and Kiki Agentum from Sweden on Balance, Bob Benner and Connie Van Bussel from Canada on Meredith, Tommy Toohey from Vero Beach on Aipheratz. We all had a wonderfully fun time, once again proving that when we see a flying fish flying off another boat we know they too have crossed an ocean and we all share the love of the sea. — with Staffan Agnetun.
2018 Scottish Dinner
From Eoin Robson October 7 at 10:16 PM The 2018 OCC Scottish Dinner in the Royal Northern and Clyde Yacht Club in Rhu, Helensburgh on Saturday, 6th October was used a guise to surprise Founder Member Ian Nicolson on the occasion of his 90th birthday. Only last week Ian was climbing the mast of his boat to attend to matters thereby proving that while growing age numbers are inevitable, growing up is entirely optional! While I still remember everybody's name, the attendees were as follows: L to R standing: Terence Brownrigg, Amanda Marshall, Patrick Marshall, John Brown, Eoin Robson (just about!), Rosemary Brown, John Ferguson, Eilean Yendell, Joyce Woffindin, Meg Buchanan, Graham Johnson, Avril Johnson, Iain Buchanan, Dinah Eagle (Sydney), Peter Neaves (Sydney), Jennifer Niel, Tony & Ginger Niemann (Seattle - sailed through the NW Passage and arrived Ardrossan just in time!). L to R seated: Commodore Anne Hammick, Founder Member and PO for Clyde Ian Nicolson and Past-Comm

After a calm trip around Cape Hatteras under a full moon Askari and Supertramp arrived in Beaufort, NC today just before a cold front.
