Greetings from the Ha’apai Group in Tonga! We are making the most of a blow to plot and scheme our arrival in New Zealand (it won’t be long now!). Although our anchorage off Uoleva Island is sheltered, the chop makes cleaning the hull just a little uncomfortable so we will wait until the wind drops. New Zealand has very tight rules and the hull must be cleaned within a month of arrival.

Ha’apai is an important breeding ground for humpback whales and by the end of September, the calves are fat and strong. In a few weeks, with their mothers, they will start the long migration to the southern high latitudes. It’s been amazing to watch them play.

A few days ago we at long last met up with fellow OCC members Lisa and Johan of S/Y Rubicon. We’ve been close on their heels all the way from Oa Pou in the Marquesas.
