Day 20 at sea, 2,444 miles from Valdivia and only 2,675 miles to go before we make landfall at Hiva Oa, Marquesas Islands.

Caramor left Valdivia later than planned because we were waiting for a replacement fridge. We put the time to good use and Caramor was shipshape as she sailed down the river towards the Pacific.

Sailing with the Humbolt current, fin whales swam nearby on several consecutive mornings, further away we could see the blows from dozens of humpbacks.

As we breeze along in the trade winds, twin headsails deployed, we are savouring our last moments of solitude before joining the Pacific ‘expressway’. Our OCC friends Marja and Stephen of yacht Motu have just arrived in Mexico and report that over 150 yachts are heading into the Pacific from Mexico alone! In Chile, four yachts are considered a crowd.
