Update on upcoming AGM and Awards Dinner

The programme for the event Saturday 21st April promises to be entertaining and enlightening.

Arrival at SS Great Britain

Please do not purchase parking tickets from the machine in the car park but park and then proceed to the entrance to the ship complex and buy a pass from the stewards who will be on duty outside the doors. Passes cost £2.50 each for up to midnight but should you wish to leave your car overnight so that you can enjoy wine with your meal you may purchase two passes that will allow you to return and collect your car any time on Sunday 22nd. So £2.50 for up to midnnight or £5.00 through to Sunday. You will need to have the correct cash to pay, cards are not accepted. Please display passes clearly in the windscreen of your car.

Morning Programme

09.30 am gather in the Virador Theatre within the SS Great Britain complex.
09.45 Welcome by Regional Rear Commodore GB Chris Jones
09.50 Introduction to the Topsail sponsored talks by Rob Stevens, managing director of Topsail Insurance.
10.00 Sailing in Nova Scotia and Maritime Canada - An illustrated talk by member John Van-Schalkwyk
10.30 The Azores Archipelago - An illustrated talk by Commodore Anne Hammick
11.00 Break for Tea and Coffee
11.30 Inspiring future generations to sail - Reflections on the rewards involved in taking young people to sea and the experience of hosting youth sponsorship recipients on ocean passages by Regional Rear Commodore GB Fiona Jones
12.00 Discussion group on medical preparations and access to medications for cruisers chaired by Rear Commodore Simon Currin
12.30 Safe and sustainable wildlife encounters at sea by member Colin Speedie of wave action

1300 Lunch

Afternoon Programme

14.30 AGM in the Virador Theatre

Followed by free time to look around the Dockside Museum or to explore the environs and relax.

1800 Boarding the SS Great Britain where you will be free to roam and explore, staff will be available to answer questions and help you get the most from this beautifully restored and very informative museum ship. There will be cash bar available in the first class dining room should you just wish to relax with friends over a drink.

1900 Head to the First Class Dining Room and find your seats as displayed on the table plan at the entrance.

1915 Welcome from our Commodore Anne Hammick followed by a brief talk on the history of the ship, there will be wine on the tables. Our MC for the evening will be Alfred Alecio.

1930 Dinner will be served followed by the Awards presentations
There will then be time to look around anything you missed before dinner or to continue socialising.

Midnight is the latest that you can leave the ship.

Please note that we have a good weather window for the day but at the moment 9mm of rain is forecast for the evening and so an umbrella may be a good idea - lets hope they aren't all the same colour as with 134 diners it could be quite a collection!
